Jo Ractliffe’s cut-and-pasted photographs of inner-city Johannesburg offer an alternative view of the city. Fragments of streets, buildings and intersections combine into a disjointed, unsettled image that resists conventional documentary form, while suggesting a more open, participatory experience of urban space than one shaped by ownership or control.
