A strong graphic portrait by one of South Africa’s most beloved artists, Mmakgabo Helen Sebidi. She was an affiliate of Bill Ainslie’s famous Johannesburg Art Foundation in the 1980s. Ainslie’s early charcoal portraits of such sitters and Zinzi Mandela was a clear inspiration for this portrait.
